We offer video production to tell engaging stories aligned to the core pillars of our mission and strategic plan. The best videos share compelling content, have a defined purpose and scope and are technically well produced. All videos produced for Auburn University should aim to follow these technical and stylistic guidelines.

Best Practices

Brand Application

Appropriate Auburn University branding should appear in all videos through use of proper logos, lower thirds and endcards.

Lower thirds should remain on screen long enough to be read easily. Titles should be listed before departments or majors, for example:

  • Professor, School of Kinesiology
  • Senior, Graphic Design
Motion Graphics
Incorporation of approved, branded motion graphics elements is strongly encouraged and enhances the message or impact of the video. Contact ocmvid@auburn.edu for assistance and branded motion graphics.
Video for Social Platforms

Videos intended for social media perform best when they are concise and immediately engaging.

  • Keep videos short (ideally :60–:90 seconds or less)
  • Format videos to match the platform
  • Use vertical video when posting to social platforms to ensure native display
Accessibility Requirements

All university-produced videos must comply with ADA accessibility requirements.

Captioning requirements:

  • Closed captions are required for videos posted to YouTube and social media
  • Captions may be added directly within the platform or uploaded as an .srt file
  • When working with an external vendor, clearly define who is responsible for transcription services

For English captions, use the following file-naming convention:

VideoFileName.en_US.srt

Campus partners can request video services by submitting a Project Request. Any questions can be directed to the video team by emailing ocmvid@auburn.edu.
