Severe Weather

 

You are responsible for monitoring weather conditions and taking appropriate actions. For weather-related emergencies, the AU ALERT System will only be used in the event of a tornado warning or other serious weather emergency impacting campus.


 

Auburn University was recognized in 2009 as a StormReady University by the National Weather Service. This recognition has been maintained since that time. This recognizes the significant efforts made by Auburn University to prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate severe weather hazards.

Tornadoes

  • Classes and normal university operations are suspended for the duration of a tornado warning affecting campus.
  • Go to a designated severe weather shelter area, usually in the interior of the lower floors of the building.
  • Stay indoors and away from exterior doors and windows until the warning expires or you are told that it is safe to leave by someone official.

Thunderstorms

  • If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
  • When thunder roars, go indoors!

Floods

  • Move to higher ground quickly.
  • Turn around, don’t drown! Do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters.
