Lucy LaMar

Director, Marketing & Creative Services

Day Job:
The marketing and creative services team in our office is designed to function as an in-house ad agency promoting the university. We serve many on-campus clients and work to market the university and various individual internal programs/colleges/offices, furthering its mission and reputation to achieve branding and communications goals. I oversee the marketing and creative development process, from marketing plan creation and graphic design, to implementation, delivering completed marketing materials including print, web, display, video, broadcast, signage and promotional items. Every day is different and every project is different, so I enjoy the variety and breadth of projects and the creative outlet our work provides.

Auburn Connection:
I lived in Auburn for most of my childhood, so it's been a big part of my life. My mom, dad, sister and brother went to Auburn, so there really wasn't a question about where I'd attend college. I moved after I graduated, but always returned to visit, as I still had family in the area. Having been away for nearly 25 years, it's rewarding to be back after living in Florida, North Carolina and Maryland. I love the fervent spirit, camaraderie and sense of belonging that's part of the Auburn Family.

Interests:
I love to travel and experience different cultures. I was born overseas and lived overseas (Army brat), so I suppose it's part of my DNA. One of my favorite trips was to the Galapagos Islands - it was absolutely amazing to be just feet away from sea lions, iguanas and blue footed boobies in their natural habitat, and to snorkel with sea lions, sharks and rays was quite memorable. Another favorite trip was a 100-mile kayak adventure around the southern coast of Crete, Greece (completed in a single kayak). This was on the seawall as we launched the first day: "Today is Life. Tomorrow Never Comes." Seems like a meaningful philosophy to try to remember every day. And I have Italy to thank for my recently acquired cappuccino addiction. I'm not really an adrenaline junkie, although I do enjoy roller coasters, speed (in boats and cars) and I have jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, completing three tandem skydive jumps. Luna, my yellow lab, formerly of Auburn University's Canine Detection Research Institute, is my pet visitation partner as we visit patients at the hospital and area nursing facilities.
