Auburn University will kick off its Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Celebration Week with a breakfast featuring Quinton Ross, president of Alabama State University, as the keynote speaker. The event will take place at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

One of the closest comets in modern times is passing by Earth – but don’t worry, there’s no danger of it hitting us. It will come relatively close in scientific terms – seven million miles away. For the average person, the comet will be visible with the naked eye and will provide a rare sky-watching event. For researchers, the proximity of the Comet 46P/Wirtanen to earth will offer a chance to collect data on comets and learn more about the building blocks of the solar system.

The Princeton Review’s 2019 best business schools rankings put Auburn University’s Online MBA program at No. 13 in the nation for the second year running, while student satisfaction ratings helped push the Full-Time MBA to No. 3 for resources to minority students and No. 5 for best administration.

Beginning spring 2019, the Auburn community will have a new childcare option in Big Blue Marble Academy, which is establishing a new facility in the Auburn Research Park, owned by the Auburn Research and Technology Foundation, or ARTF. The Big Blue Marble Academy will provide year-round childcare for children aged infancy through preschool, as well as after-school care.

An Auburn University alumnus and leader in developing communication systems for persons with severe disabilities will be the keynote speaker at the university’s fall commencement ceremonies Dec. 15. Walt Woltosz graduated from Auburn in 1969 with a degree in aerospace engineering and is a cofounder of Words+ Inc. and Simulations Plus Inc.
