Auburn University Theatre presenting 'Detroit'

Article body

The Auburn University Department of Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts is presenting “Detroit” beginning Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Black Box of Telfair Peet Theatre. Performances continue through Oct. 27.

Deep in the suburbs of a mid-sized city, a couple welcomes their new next-door neighbors. But even as backyard barbecues simmer and conversations deepen, the budding friendship threatens to unravel the lives they’ve built and change them forever.

“A sharp X-ray of the embattled American psyche as well as smart, tart critique of the country’s fraying social fabric, Ms. D’Amour’s dark comedy is as rich and addictively satisfying as a five-layer dip served up with a brimming bowl of tortilla chips” – New York Times

A 2011 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Detroit” comically exposes the raw nerves that hide just under the surface of contemporary American life. Premiering first at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago, the show quickly started its journey to New York, stopping at the National Theatre in London and landing Off Broadway at the Playwrights Horizons in a production directing by Anne Kauffman.

The artistic team for “Detroit” includes direction by Chris Qualls, costume design by guest artist Emmie Tuttle, scenic design by Fereshteh Rostampour, and lighting design by Auburn student Trevor Turner. The cast includes London Carlisle, Addison Peacock, Carter Price, Kimberly VanderWal and Hudson Hubbard.

This performance run time is one hour and forty minutes.
