Auburn University’s Huntsville Research Center hosting National Cyber Summit featuring renowned speakers and a cyber job fair

Auburn University and its Huntsville Research Center will host top cyber security professionals from across the nation for the 10th annual National Cyber Summit June 5-7 in Huntsville’s Von Braun Center, highlighted by renowned speakers and a job fair for cyber professionals and college students.

Michael D. Griffin, under secretary of defense for research and engineering at the U.S. Department of Defense and former administrator of NASA, headlines the speaker list that also includes Shawn Henry, president of CrowdStrike Services and retired executive assistant director of the FBI; Margaret Isler, head of risk at Google Technical Services; Elena Kvochko, cybersecurity thought leader; Ron Ross, fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology; and Renee Wynn, chief information officer at NASA.

The National Cyber Summit is considered the preeminent event for cyber training, education and workforce development aimed at protecting our nation’s infrastructure from the ever-evolving cyber threat.

Planned and executed by the Southeastern Cyber Security Foundation, the two-day event is hosted by the Auburn University Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and its Huntsville Research Center; Cyber Huntsville; North Alabama Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association; and University of Alabama in Huntsville.

“Strategic partnerships are vital in developing the technology and policies to protect our nation against cyber threats,” Auburn University President Steven Leath said. “By bringing together universities, industry, governmental agencies and cyber associations, we can create and implement solutions to this pressing issue.”

In addition to keynotes from world-class speakers, the summit offers attendees a diverse offering of educational training sessions and a unique opportunity to network with peers and industry professionals. Presentations will be made in tracks including advanced manufacturing; education and workforce development; finance; research; and technical.

A cyber job fair on Wednesday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will connect cyber security professionals and students with employers. It’s a hiring event for cleared and non-cleared cybersecurity professionals as well as college students in a cybersecurity degree program and will feature national and local employers filling cyber security positions including Boeing, Booz Allen Hamilton, COLSA, Deloitte, Harris, IBM, Parsons, SAIC and more. The fair will also feature complimentary resume reviews.

“There is no better place to address cybersecurity than in Huntsville, Alabama,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. “This city is at the pinnacle of technology, and the National Cyber Summit brings together the best and brightest from our government, industry and academic technical community.”

The summit has attracted more than 1,000 military, government, industry and academic cyber security professionals in the past. More than 100 commercial companies are anticipated to attend this year, as well as representatives from numerous Department of Defense organizations and civilian departments and agencies including the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, National Science Foundation, National Security Agency, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army.
