Auburn University’s Veterans Resource Center and the Auburn Student Veterans Association have scheduled events on campus to honor veterans during Veterans Day week, Nov. 6-10. Throughout the week, Auburn students will hear the military service songs for each branch of service in order of precedence after the fight song is played from Samford Clock Tower at noon each day.

While we will be honoring veterans and their service, it is also important to remember that some veterans are still fighting a battle here at home. During Veterans’ Week, the Auburn Student Veterans Association, or ASVA, and the Auburn Student Nursing Association will conduct a suicide awareness campaign. The campaign centers around bringing awareness to the 22 suicides that occur each day: 22 veterans end their life every single day. In bringing this to light, there is intention to show the many ways to help.

The ASVA and Student Nursing Association will make a three-day long display Nov. 6-8 on Cater Lawn to give a visual to the 110 veterans that will take their own life that week. Each day from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., student nurses and student veterans will be at the lawn to hand out pamphlets on mental health.

If you know a veteran that has lost their life to suicide, we invite you to remember them by writing their name on a piece of paper or bringing a picture to attach to the board provided on the lawn. The ASVA has made a way for supporters to fund veterans with access to programs that help the fight that starts when a veteran comes home. Donations can be made online.
