A traveling exhibit commemorating the centennial anniversary of Alabama's involvement in World War I is coming to Pebble Hill in April.

"Remembering the Great War: Alabama and World War One" tells the story of the war from the perspectives of Alabamians whose lives were shaped by the conflict. A public launch of the exhibit will take place Thursday, April 6, with a reception and exhibit preview at 4 p.m. at Pebble Hill in Auburn. A special preview screening of the PBS and American Experience documentary, "The Great War," will begin at 5 p.m. Roy Clem, executive director of Alabama Public Television, will be on hand to introduce the film.

"The Great War" tells the rich and complex story of World War I through the voices of nurses, journalists, aviators and the American troops who came to be known as "doughboys." The United States entered World War I in April 1917 on the side of the Allies, and an estimated 95,000 Alabamians served in uniform.

"Remembering the Great War" was created by the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University and the Alabama Department of Archives and History, with assistance from industrial design students in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction and Associate Professor Shu-Wen Tzeng.
