The director of the Auburn University Aviation Center and Airport will be the speaker for the This is Auburn Speaker Series Friday, Sept. 30, during homecoming weekend. Bill Hutto, a two-time Auburn graduate, will present "Auburn Aviation: A Rich History and a Bright Future" at 3 p.m. at the Auburn Alumni Center.

His presentation will offer a review of Auburn's aviation history while providing a glimpse into the opportunities and new developments within the university's aviation programs.

The newly formed Auburn University Aviation Center fosters statewide economic development, strengthens the university's aviation programs, enhances the student experience and offers aviation-oriented outreach opportunities. Hutto's duties as director include marketing, public relations, planning, budget preparation and management, consultant management, and also construction and personnel matters. In addition, he is responsible for the operation of the fixed-base operation that provides all aircraft and pilot services.

"Auburn University has been providing aviation and aerospace course offerings for over 80 years," Hutto said. "In fact, 2016 marks 75 years of professional, manned flight training."

Prior to joining Auburn, Hutto spent more than 10 years in Titusville, Florida, working for the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority, where he served as executive director for his last seven years there.

A native of Eufaula, Hutto obtained his bachelor's degree in aviation management from Auburn University. He also earned a doctoral degree in public administration and public policy from Auburn, and he obtained his master's degree in aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
