Summer enrichment program set for June 6-July 14 on Auburn University campus

The Auburn University Early Childhood Summer Enrichment Program, for preschool to age 8, is scheduled for June 6-July 14. The program will run Monday through Thursday, from 7:45 a.m. to noon. There will be no classes on Fridays, and no class on Monday, July 4. Complete registration information is available at

"This great Auburn program has been held on our campus for over 25 years," said Sean Durham, program director and assistant professor in the College of Education. "Our 2016 Early Childhood Summer Enrichment Program will focus on a play-based curriculum where young children will engage in playful, hands-on activities to strengthen their academic skills. We will also take fun and enriching field trips to the Davis Arboretum and the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, plus fun walking tours of campus. Daily opportunities for one-on-one attention is provided by 19 student teachers in early childhood education, whose energy and creativity make this program so beneficial to children.

"Children should come ready to get their hands dirty with activities such as making mud pies, gardening, building with blocks and other materials, taking nature walks, listening to and writing their own stories, singing and dancing, creating through rich art materials and really exploring their individual interests in depth."

The registration fee is $50 per child. Tuition is $400 per child. Mid-morning snacks will be provided, but children should to eat breakfast before they come to school. Each Thursday at 11:30 a.m., families are invited to share a summertime ice cream treat with their child, build relationships with others and have a look at the rich learning that happened throughout the week.
