Tuskegee University president guest speaker at Auburn University MLK Scholarship Breakfast Jan. 18

Auburn University will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast Monday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 a.m. at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center to honor the late civil rights icon's life and legacy. The guest speaker for the breakfast will be Tuskegee University President Brian Johnson.

Johnson, the seventh president of Tuskegee University, received his bachelor's degree from Johnson C. Smith University in 1995, his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1998 and his doctorate from the University of South Carolina at Columbia in 2003.

An accomplished professor, scholar and administrator, Johnson has published several academic and scholarly books. His biographical narrative, "A Young Man Apart, A World Apart," was published in the Aug. 31, 1995, edition of the Raleigh News and Observer. In talks across the country, Johnson continues to share his experiences hailing from inner-city Durham, North Carolina. Johnson is married to Shemeka Barnes Johnson; they have two sons, Brian Asa Johnson and Nathan Morgan Qodesh Johnson.

The scholarship breakfast is hosted by the East Alabama Chapter of the National Forum for Black Administrators, Auburn University Office of the Vice President for University Outreach and the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
