A selection of 18 fine art photographs is on display in "The 1072 Society Exhibition 2015" through Jan. 24 at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University, Two of the photographs have local connections – one to Auburn University and one to the Auburn-Opelika area.

Auburn University will host "Tiger Giving Day," a 24-hour university-wide crowdfunding initiative, on Dec. 1. Tiger Giving Day is part of Giving Tuesday, a national day of philanthropy held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. TigerGiving.org will highlight more than 20 unique projects from Auburn's colleges, schools and units that are seeking private support.

Not every Thanksgiving dinner table will look the same, with a range of main dishes that can include classic turkey to ham to lasagna. But safety should be a constant in every Thanksgiving feast. Because holiday meals usually take longer to prepare and serve than everyday meals, bacteria have more opportunities to sneak in and ruin a fun family gathering.

Airbus Americas has donated a $750,000 elevator – a tail section of its A330 twin-engine jet airliner – to the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University. This real-world aircraft component will be used in the department's aerospace structures lab as a prototype for students to explore and analyze.

Marching band drummers may have fewer back pains in the future thanks to a team of Auburn University Marching Band alumni. Ande Sumner, a 2012 graduate of biomechanics in the School of Kinesiology, led the team that invented the Drumbelt, which allows marching band drummers to take greater advantage of the properties of the drum carrier.

Dorothy Davidson, chair and CEO of Huntsville's Davidson Technologies, has made a $5 million gift to Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering to renovate portions of Broun Hall, the home of electrical engineering. Her gift honors her late husband Julian Davidson, a 1950 Auburn electrical engineering graduate and defense industry pioneer.
