Auburn University hosting variety of events on Nov. 13

Auburn University football fans and the community have the opportunity to attend a variety of educational and entertaining events on Friday, Nov. 13, the day before the Auburn vs. Georgia game.

The events range from global topics to alumni coming home to the Plains, as well as the unveiling of a new Auburn T-shirt and the weekly raptor show.

The Nov. 13 events include:

  • World Trade Center survivor and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police officer Will Jimeno will present a piece of steel from the World Trade Center to the Veteran’s Resource Center at 10:30 a.m. in 217 Foy Hall. Jimeno will commence the Veteran’s Resource Center’s Veteran’s Day celebration week with a speech to the public at 1 p.m. in 113A in the Lowder Building. Jimeno’s survival inspired the movie “World Trade Center.”
  • Barbara Dooley will speak at the Women’s Philanthropy Board Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in Ballroom A at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. A limited number of seats are still available. Dooley is a known TV personality, author, real estate professional, nonprofit volunteer and philanthropist. She is married to Vince Dooley, legendary University of Georgia football coach and athletic director. She will be introduced by Auburn’s own legendary football coach, Pat Dye and will deliver the keynote address of the luncheon.
  • The “Forum on World Affairs: a Discussion on the U.S. Role in the Middle East” will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The panel features U.S. Rep. Martha Roby and Gen. Lloyd Austin who will discuss topics such as the balance of diplomacy and military force in the Middle East; military restructuring and budget constraints; the roles of U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM; the ISIS threat; and the U.S. response to Russian actions in Syria.
  • Cartoonist Jimmy Johnson will be featured in the All Star Lecture Series that will begin at 3 p.m. at the Auburn Alumni Center. Johnson, creator of the nationally syndicated comic strip Arlo and Janis, will talk about how the former newspaperman and editorial cartoonist found a career depicting the life and times of Arlo and Janis, a middle-aged, middle class couple.
  • The Student Design League, a competition among Auburn fashion students, will reveal its winning T-shirt design at an event at 3 p.m. on the Langdon Hall steps. Auburn softball coach Clint Myers will announce the winner. Four designs, submitted by students in Auburn’s apparel design and apparel merchandising programs, received online votes from the Auburn Family between Nov. 1-8. The design with the most votes will become the first ever #AUshirt and will be available online after the announcement at www.SDLproject.com. The contest was the result of a partnership between the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences in the College of Human Sciences and Robin Ruth, a leading designer for travelers worldwide.
  • Football, Fans and Feathers will take place at the Southeastern Raptor Center from 4-5 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to see a raptor show and flight demonstration that enable visitors to see the raptors fly up close. Tickets are $5 per person.
