Auburn University Fisheries hosting expo, field day Oct. 17

The Auburn University School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences will host an expo and field day Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the E.W. Shell Fisheries Research Center on North College Street in Auburn. The event is free and open to the public.

The expo and field day will feature tours of facilities and ponds at the north Auburn center and also will have food vendors with samples, extended fish market hours, children's activities including fishing, live music and presentations by faculty.

"Given the enthusiastic response of the public last year, when over 1,000 people attended, we were eager to make our field day into an annual outreach and education event for our school," said Eric Peatman, an associate professor in the school and organizer of the event. "We're excited to invite the community back this year for what we hope will be an even bigger and better event than last year."

The Auburn University School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences in the College of Agriculture has its roots in the inland fisheries and aquaculture research of Homer S. Swingle.
