Auburn University awarding 1,144 degrees in ceremonies featuring CEO of Children’s of Alabama

Auburn University will award 1,144 academic degrees Aug. 1 in Auburn Arena during two summer graduation ceremonies featuring addresses by Auburn alumnus Mike Warren Jr., president and CEO of the pediatric acute care facility, Children's of Alabama.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include the colleges and schools of Architecture, Design and Construction; Engineering; Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; University College, formerly Interdisciplinary Studies; Liberal Arts; and Sciences and Mathematics. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be held for the colleges and school of Agriculture; Business; Education; Human Sciences; and Nursing. Warren, who graduated from Auburn in 1968, received the Auburn Alumni Association's 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award and he is also a 2015 inductee into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame. After graduating from Auburn, he attended law school at Duke University and began his career practicing law in Birmingham. He became president of Alagasco in 1984 and was named president and CEO of Energen in 1997 and chair in 1998. In 2008, he was named president and CEO of Children's of Alabama in Birmingham.

Of the degrees Auburn will award, 716 are bachelor's degrees, 300 are master's degrees, 110 are doctorates and 18 are education specialist degrees.

The College of Liberal Arts will award the most bachelor's degrees with 175, followed by the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business with 139. The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering will present 100 degrees; College of Human Sciences, 69; School of Nursing, 66; College of Sciences and Mathematics, 59; College of Education, 42; College of Architecture, Design and Construction, 40; College of Agriculture, 11; University College, 11; and School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, four.
