The Auburn University Regional Airport will showcase vintage aircraft, warbird planes and other military vehicles May 16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. during the Aviation Education Outreach organization's Fly-In event.

"We are excited and pleased to host the Fly-In again this year," Airport and Aviation Center Director Bill Hutto said. "Aviation has a rich history with the university and this community. It has touched the lives of many people in our area. We are looking forward to a fun-filled day that will appeal to all ages.

"The event enhances the outreach efforts of the Auburn University Aviation Center by sharing aviation with the community and providing an educational opportunity to learn more about aviation."

Tickets are $5 at the gate and in advance at the airport at 2150 Mike Hubbard Boulevard in Auburn and at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce at 714 East Glenn Avenue. Children under the age of 6 get in free. Active duty military and veterans with a valid ID are also given free admission in honor of Military Appreciation Day. Parking will be available at the event via shuttle.

All proceeds benefit Aviation Education Outreach, whose mission is to provide educational and development programs in support of expanding aviation experiences and opportunities for the community. It is a program within the Community Foundation of East Alabama, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization led by an advisory committee of community volunteers.

Aviation Education Outreach is funded by donations from private and corporate donors as well grants made possible through support from the cities of Auburn and Opelika, along with the Lee County Commission. The goal is to expose audiences to the wonders of aviation and open young minds to the possibility of a wide range of future aviation-related career opportunities through history, math and science.
