Gov. Bentley encouraging nominations for Auburn trustee position

Gov. Robert Bentley is seeking nominations for an open position on the Auburn University Board of Trustees.

The open position represents District 5, which includes Chambers, Cherokee, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, Marshall, Randolph and Tallapoosa Counties. Gaines Lanier from Lanett currently occupies the seat.

Applicants must be a resident of the open district and less than 70 years-of-age when appointed. The nomination deadline is December 10, according to a letter from Bentley to the Auburn family.

"As in the past, members of the Committee are looking for leaders who are forward-looking, service-oriented and dedicated to furthering Auburn's instruction, research and extension missions," Bentley wrote in the open letter.

The Auburn Trustee Selection Committee is comprised of Bentley or his representative, two members of the Auburn Alumni Association's board of directors and two current Auburn trustees. The committee will review applications and interview candidates prior to the start of the State Legislature's 2015 session in early March. The committee's nominee requires confirmation by the Alabama Senate.

Candidates who wish to be considered should electronically submit a letter of interest and relevant background information, such as resume or letters of recommendation, to www.auburn.edu/trusteenominees.

The Auburn Board consists of one trustee from each congressional district as they were constituted in 1961, a trustee representing Lee County, three at-large trustees and the governor as an ex-officio member.
