The Auburn University Leadership Series continues Nov. 6 with 'The Impact of Expectations on Listening,' a talk by former chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism, Margaret Fitch-Hauser, on the importance of effective listening for those in leadership positions. The talk is from 8 a.m. to noon at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The Auburn Alumni Association and Office of Professional and Continuing Education will host the public event.

Auburn University senior Tofey Leon and 2014 graduate Azeem Ahmed have been selected as finalists for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. If awarded, they will be among 32 U.S. students to receive the honor for an opportunity to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

The Auburn University Theatre will present a free public performance by Tim Miller, a nationally prominent performance artist, in the new black box theatre of the Telfair Peet Theatre Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

The Auburn University Adapted Sports Program, directed by Jared Rehm, is offering our community's youth, ages 8 to 18, an inclusive sports experience. Tiger Sports Day will be held this Saturday, Nov. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.

 Auburn geology professor David King will give a public presentation Friday, Nov. 7, about his 1982 discovery in Montgomery County, Alabama, of the most complete tyrannosaur ever found in eastern North America. He will present "Auburn's Dinosaur" at 3 p.m. in The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center auditorium.

Auburn scientist Geoff Hill, professor and curator of birds in the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, has received the 2014 William Brewster Memorial Award from the American Ornithologists' Union. The award is the highest honor given to an ornithologist and is awarded annually to the author or co-authors of an exceptional body of work on birds of the Western Hemisphere.

Auburn University will host a public forum on Alabama's prison overcrowding issue Monday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. in Coleman Fellowship Hall of Auburn First Baptist Church, 128 E. Glenn Avenue. The David Mathews Center for Civic Life and the Alabama Media Group will facilitate the forum.

The Alabama Academy of Honor will welcome eight new members in a public ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in the old House Chambers of the State Capitol in Montgomery. Apple CEO and Auburn University alumnus Tim Cook, a native of Robertsdale, will be among the inductees and will make remarks on behalf of the incoming class. Gov. Robert Bentley and Chairman of the Academy Catherine Randall will make welcoming remarks. Jim Stephens will address the audience on behalf of current Academy members.

Auburn University’s Stacey Nickson has been elected president of the Alabama Fulbright Association following a statewide vote of the associations’ alumni. Nickson is director of K-12 Outreach in the Office of the Vice President for University Outreach.

William Kamkwamba, co-author with Bryan Mealer of Auburn University's 2014-15 Common Book, "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope," will give a public talk about his book and life Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. in Foy Hall Auditorium. The event is part of the Auburn Connects! Common Book Program.

Auburn University will host a world affairs forum with U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions and Adm. Michael S. Rogers as panelists Friday, Oct. 24, from 1-2 p.m. at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Auburn University graduate Ashton Richardson has been chosen as a finalist for the prestigious Marshall Scholarship. If awarded, Richardson will pursue a doctorate of philosophy in international development at Oxford University.

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University will hold the Dr. Dougie Macintire Celebration of Life Sunday, Oct. 26, to recognize pets that have overcome life-threatening injuries and illnesses.

Directed by Dan LaRocque, "Nunsense" will be the first production in the new Black Box Theatre addition. Show dates are Oct. 23, 24, 26 and Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m.

The maximum annual percentage rate for a $100 loan through payday lenders in Alabama is more than 456 percent. Some rates allowed in other states are even higher.

USA Team Handball will host its first domestic competition in three years with a three-day series against Puerto Rico at Auburn University’s Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Oct. 17-19.

Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art will hold its first juried exhibition of fine ceramics as a part of the "2014 Alabama and Neighbors Ceramics Exhibition" on display through Nov. 2 in the Grand Gallery. The exhibition represents 14 regional artists drawn from applicants across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. During the closing weekend, the public will have an opportunity to purchase select items from the exhibition as well as other items created by the artists.

"Our Common History" series on Macon County continues Oct. 21 with a presentation by Joe Caver, co-author of "The Tuskegee Airmen, An Illustrated History: 1939-1949," at 4 p.m. at the Tuskegee History Center, 104 South Elm St.

Auburn University will host a premiere screening of the documentary, "Quiet Courage: The James Curtis Owens Story" on Monday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The film, produced in conjunction with Best Gurl inc., chronicles the story of Auburn University's first African-American scholarship football player, James Curtis Owens. The ticketed event will include a reception prior to the documentary screening to meet Owens and members of the cast.

The Southeastern Raptor Center at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will hold a public release of rehabilitated birds on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 8:45 a.m. in Wood Duck Heritage Preserve and Siddique Nature Park in Opelika. Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller will attend the event.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m., a reading and celebration in honor of Auburn University alumnus Jake Adam York will be held at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art as part of the museum's monthly Third Thursday Poetry Series. The York tribute will serve as an opening event for this year's Auburn Writers Conference.

The Auburn Alumni Association has selected four Auburn University graduates as recipients of its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award. They are: Samuel L. Ginn ’59, retired president and CEO of AirTouch, now Vodafone; Melissa Brown Herkt ’77, retired president of Process Systems and Solutions, a division of Emerson Process Management; David E. Housel ’69, Auburn University athletic director emeritus; and W. Michael Warren ’68, president and CEO of Children’s of Alabama. J. Benjamin Chappell ’03, owner and principal of Interior Elements, is the recipient of the Young Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes extraordinary accomplishments of a member of the Auburn Family, age 40 and under.

Works by master European painters will be on display at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University in the exhibition "Rembrandt, Rubens, Gainsborough, and the Golden Age of Painting in Europe" Oct. 19 through Jan. 4.

Forty-eight faculty and administrators from Southeastern Conference universities, including three from Auburn University, have been selected as 2014-15 SEC Academic Leadership Development Program fellows.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers presented a Congressional Record detailing the leadership skills and accomplishments of Auburn University student Carol Linde on Oct. 7 at the Auburn Student Center. Linde, who is this year’s recipient of Auburn’s Political Science Leadership Award, is a senior in the College of Liberal Arts majoring in political science and psychology and minoring in English and women’s studies.

Outside of the forestry and wildlife students who spend a sweltering few weeks in the summer learning field skills there, few at Auburn know about the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center. Donated in 1979 to Auburn's School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences by Solon Dixon, the diverse 5,300-acre property is located in Andalusia, Alabama, roughly a three-hour drive from Auburn's main campus. The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences owns and operates the center to advance the land-grant mission of instruction, outreach and research.

Auburn University's fourth annual All In, All Pink event to promote breast cancer awareness will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Student Center green space. The Office of the Vice President for University Outreach, in collaboration with The Office of Public Service, Kappa Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi, will host the event. All students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend.

The Southeast Climate Extension project, a large-scale partnership of six universities across the Southeast, was recently awarded the National Institute of Food and Agriculture's Partnership Award for Multistate Efforts.

Auburn University’s Office of the Vice President for University Outreach will receive a total of $4.45 million over the next seven years as part of two U.S. Department of Education Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, or GEAR UP, grants awarded in Alabama. The grants will be administered as part of University Outreach’s K-12 and College Access department.
