AUBURN UNIVERSITY -- USA Team Handball will host its first domestic competition in three years with a three-day series against Puerto Rico at Auburn University’s Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Oct. 17-19.

Games begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free to the public. The competition consists of two 30-minute halves and each day will consist of a doubleheader led by the women’s teams followed by the men.

Auburn University is the home of the USA National Team Handball Residency Program. Players in this program have relocated to Auburn in order to train full time and gain experience to pursue their Olympic dreams.

USA Team Handball men’s head coach Javier Garcia Cuesta and women’s head coach Christian Latulippe both say they are excited to have a home competition with their teams for the first time in more than three years and have high hopes of creating a fan base within the Auburn and Opelika communities.

“This weekend will be a great opportunity not only to gain playing experience, but also to evaluate the talent and skill level of the national players,” said Cuesta.

After falling to Puerto Rico by two goals earlier this year, Latulippe has high expectations for his team. “We want to show our improvements and make it known we are ready to compete,” he said.
