Article body

The Auburn University Leadership Series continues Nov. 6 with 'The Impact of Expectations on Listening,' a talk by former chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism, Margaret Fitch-Hauser, on the importance of effective listening for those in leadership positions. The talk is from 8 a.m. to noon at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The Auburn Alumni Association and Office of Professional and Continuing Education will host the public event.

In her talk, Fitch-Hauser will focus on how effective listening can be impacted by our own interpretations, ideas, experiences and expectations – how we hear and perceive things. She says these create a filter through which we screen everything in our communication with others and that it's important for leaders to be aware of these as they interact with others."

Fitch-Hauser spent 27 years with Auburn's Department of Communication and Journalism, nine of those as its chair, and has over 35 years' experience as an educator, consultant, trainer and coach. She was inducted into the International Listening Hall of Fame in 2004.
