People across North America are preparing to experience an eclipse of the sun on Monday, Aug. 21. Communities nationwide are holding events as a part of “Eclipse Across America 2017.”

Aug. 21 is also the first day of fall semester at Auburn University. As such, the College of Sciences and Mathematics and the Jule Collins Smith Museum are partnering on the “2017 Eclipse Across America” event as part of Auburn's Welcome Week activities. The event will be held on the Student Center Green Space.

Auburn’s 2017 Eclipse Across America event will promote eclipse safety and build community through the sciences and arts. Approved safety glasses will be distributed while supplies last.

Materials will be available for making pinhole cameras, and the event will include group viewing stations and art-making activities. Participants will also create shadow drawings and other “where were you when” keepsakes, and a photo booth will be set up.

The Auburn University event hashtag is #AUsolareclipse. Visit for eclipse viewing safety tips.
