Chetan S. Sankar, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Systems and Technology, in the Raymond S. Harbert College of Business, and past director of the Geospatial Research and Applications Center, along with Michael Klonsinski, executive vice president of  Berntsen International, Inc., received an award for their innovative collaborative effort to locate infrastructure elements using the InfraMarker system. The company has created this system and it has been tested and improved by undergraduate and graduate students in locating infrastructure elements in multiple sites in Alabama from 2011 to now. Through this continuous interaction, the system has been refined multiple times and is now available for public use. This innovation was recognized by the Geospatial World Forum in Hyderabad, India.
