Over the course of four days in July, more than 50 Auburn faculty members from various College of Sciences and Mathematics disciplines gathered with Mobile Summer Institute, or MoSI, experts to implement student-centered learning strategies designed to increase engagement and learning. Held in the Academic Classroom and Laboratory Complex in partnership with The Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning with funding support from the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, instruction technology was seamlessly incorporated to redesign and enhance course content. Collaboration and constructive feedback were welcomed as faculty members from diverse backgrounds instructed each other in classroom format presentations utilizing the new techniques and technologies workshopped in previous days.

The August Construction Update contains photos and details for 10 capital projects currently taking place. Capital projects are those that cost more than $1 million and must be approved by the Auburn University Board of Trustees before construction can begin. This edition includes photos of the recently completed Starbucks relocation project. Now located on Melton Student Center’s main floor, this venue can seat more than 55 customers and serves a full Starbucks menu. Five new construction projects are also featured. They include: 1. A new corporate hangar at the Auburn University Regional Airport 2. A pavilion at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Graham Farm and Nature Center 3. Renovations inside the McWhorter Center for both the gymnastics and softball locker rooms 4. Plainsman Park improvements will add a Hall of Fame Club and premium seats at field level 5. Renovation of a 57,000-square-foot building will provide new research, classroom and faculty space at Auburn University at Montgomery. Graduate writers who think they would benefit from writing in the company of other students with expert assistance on hand are encouraged to consider signing up for the Graduate Research and Writing Studio. This weekly writing retreat will run every Wednesday between Sept. 6 and Nov. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the University Writing Studio (2056 RBD Library). The Studio will offer a sense of community, access to a research librarian and a graduate writing consultant, and light refreshments, all to help you achieve your writing goals. The Graduate Research and Writing Studio is a program sponsored by the Libraries and by University Writing. Please complete this survey by Sept. 5 to register for the program.
