For the second consecutive year, OnStage Blog has ranked the Auburn University Department of Theatre as the best in the state. For its 2018 rankings, OnStage researched college theatre programs across the country using a criteria consisting of tuition, facilities, academic rigorousness, performing opportunities, career support and location, across all undergraduate programs in every state.

“We are encouraged by this recognition that the work of our students, faculty, and staff resonates within and outside of our community. We see this honor both as a recognition of our program’s growth and stellar reputation as well as a charge to continue to do the good work,” said Chase Bringardner, associate professor and chair of the Department of Theatre.

Auburn University Theatre produces a full season of exciting plays and musicals both on the main stage of the University Theatre and in the Black Box & Dance Studio. Auditions and participation in theatre productions are open to the entire university community, providing a remarkable opportunity to partake-in and appreciate the performing arts.

“The Auburn Theatre Department strives to create a vibrant atmosphere across our five degree programs for individuals to grow into thriving, young citizen artists. Our faculty, staff, and students labor each and every day to tell stories vital to our communities and to generate work onstage and in the classroom that develops skills, crafts dialogues, and encourages empathy,” Bringardner said.

The Auburn University Theatre Department presents six high-quality productions per year, and range from Shakespeare to musical comedy to modern dance.

“I am very proud that our hard-working students, faculty, and staff have received this recognition,” said Joseph Aistrup, dean of the College of Liberal Arts. “I hope people will attend one of our exciting theatre productions and experience it for themselves.”
