Campus Safety And Security is offering Campus Community Emergency Response Team, or CCERT, training Nov. 2-3. CCERTs are groups of trained individuals who have volunteered to take an active role during campus emergencies. Teams are generally organized by building, with the goal to have an active team in every occupied building on campus. The CCERT training program prepares team members for routine activation during events such as tornado warnings and fire alarms, and non-routine activation during a disaster. Topics covered include disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical triage and treatment, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, terrorism and team organization. Attendees are provided hands-on fire extinguisher training and automated external defibrillator familiarization as part of the class. EM317-E, the CCERT exercise, must be completed after taking this class. Registration is available on Fast Train.
