Jan Kavookjian, associate professor in the Harrison School of Pharmacy's Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy, recently spoke at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Kavookjian met with health care providers from the Diabetes and Endocrinology Adult Specialty Group to speak on motivational interviewing and shared decision-making, and the role that these can play in the care of patients with diabetes. The group included endocrinologist physicians, diabetes educators- including pharmacists, registered dietitians and nurses- and researchers from the clinic’s quality and safety department. Kavookjian presented from the perspective of the Chronic Care Model components of treatment decision-making and self-management behaviors support. The Cleveland Clinic’s Diabetes and Endocrinology Department is ranked third in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report.
