Jan Kavookjian, associate professor in the Harrison School of Pharmacy’s Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy, will be presenting May 27 at the American Diabetes Association Clinical Conference for Patient Centered Care in Orlando, Florida.

Kavookjian is presenting on Motivational Interviewing, a patient-centered communication skills set and way of being that has been shown to help persons make and sustain decisions about health behavior changes.

Kavookjian has a behavior sciences focus in outcomes research with more than 18 years of experience applying an adult learning theory basis for Motivational Interviewing, or MI, training for providers across health professions and teaches advanced MI electives in the Auburn Doctor of Pharmacy and Ph.D. programs.  Her research includes outcomes from provider intervention for disease management/prevention, particularly using MI in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and cancer prevention.
