Auburn University Libraries’ Discover Auburn Lecture Series presents Valerie Pope Burns’ “Visions of the Black Belt: A Cultural Survey of the Heart of Alabama” book talk on Thursday, April 6 at 3 p.m. in the Caroline Marshall Draughon Auditorium on the ground floor of Ralph Brown Draughon Library. A reception will follow the program.

“Visions of the Black Belt” is an evocative and gorgeously photographed social and cultural history of this long-tormented part of the country that captures all its contradictions and beauty. Burns received her Ph.D. from the Auburn University Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and now teaches at the University of West Alabama.
