Auburn University Libraries will host Edwin Bridges at the Discover Auburn lecture series on March 2 at 3 p.m. as he speaks on his new book “Alabama: The Making of an American State.” After the lecture, Bridges’ book will be on sale and he will be signing copies. “Alabama: The Making of an American State” fills a gap in the literature between academic histories directed toward scholars and college students and textbook histories aimed at the fourth grade. Bridges, director emeritus of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, presents the long and storied history of the state of Alabama in an illustrated volume that conveys the magisterial sweep of Alabama’s rich, difficult and remarkable history with verve, eloquence and an unblinking eye.

The program will be in the Caroline Marshall Draughon Auditorium on the ground floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library. The program is open to the public and a reception will follow.
