November is open enrollment month at Auburn University, and employees are encouraged to review the benefits packet that they recently received in campus mail.

Open Enrollment for 2017 benefits begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and continues until Nov. 30, at 4:45 p.m. During this time, employees may enroll in, cancel or make changes to their benefits elections. IRS regulations do not allow for Plan enrollment beyond Nov. 30, unless there is a qualifying event during the year.

For employees who are currently enrolled in health, dental, vision and cancer insurance and who do not want to make any changes to their coverages, nothing needs to be done to continue these benefits.  No action on their part will be deemed to represent their wish for their elections to carry over into 2017. However, if they are currently enrolled in the Flexible Spending Account, they must re-enroll or their FSA contributions will end as of Dec. 31. 

Notable changes for 2017 include:

  • Premium increases for health insurance will range between $4.91 to $22.09 per month (5 percent) depending on the employee’s salary and plan type. While premiums must increase within the plan, the university is fortunate to be able to limit these increases to less than those of many other employers across the state of Alabama and the country.
  • There will be no premium increases for the dental and cancer insurance plans, and vision insurance premiums will decrease by 3 percent.
  • Coverage for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy has been combined to allow up to 30 visits per year in any combination of the three.
  • The individual out-of-pocket maximum will be capped at $7,150, and the family out-of-pocket maximum will be capped at $14,300. Last year, these maximums were $6,850 and $13,700, respectively. 
  • CVS will be a non-preferred pharmacy. While Auburn University plan members can still utilize CVS, patient medication co-payments (out-of-pocket costs) will increase by $10 for each tier at all CVS pharmacies, which include those pharmacies inside of Target.

Cancer Insurance, Supplemental Life and Disability plans

Representatives from Colonial Life will be available to discuss cancer insurance, supplemental life and disability plans on the following dates and times:

  • Nov. 3, East Glenn Administrative Complex, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Nov. 8, East Glenn Administrative Complex, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Nov. 10, East Glenn Administrative Complex (orientation), Ingram Hall and AUM Benefits Fair
  • Nov. 15, AUM Library Tower Conference Room (9th Floor)
  • Nov. 17, East Glenn Administrative Complex, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Nov. 29, Ingram Hall and AUM Library Tower Conference Room (9th Floor)
  • Nov. 30, East Glenn Administrative Complex, Ingram Hall and AUM Library Tower Conference Room (9th Floor)

Dental Plans Reminder

As a reminder, all employees who enroll in one of the dental plans will make a commitment to be in the program for a consecutive period of at least two years.
