“It is with a heavy heart that we inform the Auburn University community of the sudden passing of Thomas Nadar, an associate professor of German in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in the College of Liberal Arts,” said Joseph Aistrup, dean of the college.

Nadar, 70, of Auburn, formerly of Oak Park, Illinois, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17. He was a beloved teacher and researcher, and was inducted to the Academy of Teaching and Outstanding Teachers in 2004. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan and taught twentieth century German drama and film studies, Bertolt Brecht, literature, music and language pedagogy for many years at Auburn University. He was a faithful parishioner and music director at St. Michael’s Church for many years, and a memorial service was held there for him on Thursday, Oct. 20. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations to St. Mary of Providence, a residence for women with special needs. The address is 4200 North Austin Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60634.
