Melvin K. Smith has been recognized by the Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers, or AACE, board of directors for his service to the organization and profession.

Smith, special events coordinator with the Career Center at Auburn University, received the resolution during the association’s annual meeting in Gadsden in this summer, when the organization celebrated its 40th anniversary. He was also presented a plaque and a monetary award for being selected the 2015-16 Outstanding College Professional of the Year, an award he received in 2006-07, too.

AACE recognized Smith for his many achievements and combined contributions to the organization, which has been exemplified through his outstanding professionalism, commitment and cooperation.

Tammy White, director of Career Services at the University of West Alabama, said Smith, “is most deserving of this recognition because the organization has grown significantly with him in charge of membership. Melvin has always believed in the value of AACE and never missed an opportunity to promote it during professional meetings. I would say that possibly he has done more than any other member to ensure that we are still a strong organization.”

A 27-year member of AACE, Smith has served the organization in various capacities, assisting with workshops and conferences, coordinating events and meetings and serving on various committees.
