This academic year, the College of Liberal Arts has welcomed three new department chairs and one new interim department chair.

Cynthia Bowling—Department of Political Science

Bowling directs the political science Ph.D. program and teaches graduate courses at Auburn. Her research interests include state government administration, public budgeting and representative bureaucracy. Her current research project focuses on policy implications of gender representation in state administration. In addition to department chair, Bowling is currently the special issue editor for Publius, The Journal of Federalism. David Lucsko—Department of History

Lucsko joined the university in 2010 as an associate professor. His research primarily focuses on the history of the automobile including its manufacturers and enthusiasts. Since 2009, he has produced many publications on the subject. In addition to department chair, Lucsko serves as the secretary of the Society for the History of Technology. Carole Zugazaga—Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work

Zugazaga has been with the university since 2002, and in 2006 received the College of Liberal Arts Early Career Teaching Award. Her research interests include homelessness, poverty and program evaluation. Her current project is a grant awarded by the state of Alabama Women’s Commission. In addition to department chair, Zugazaga is the chair of the East Alabama Coalition for the Homeless. Michael Milford—School of Communication and Journalism

Milford teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at Auburn concerning rhetoric and communication. His main research and teaching interest is rhetorical theory and criticism. His past research has included topics from the Olympics to science fiction films. In addition to being an interim department chair, Milford serves on the editorial board for the Southern Journal of Communication.
