Notice body

The Office of the Vice President for University Outreach has announced the 2016-2017 call for proposals for the Competitive Outreach Scholarship Grants Program, or COSG program. The COSG program is intramural and is made available to promote community-engaged scholarship and the outreach enterprise. The purpose of the grants is to encourage faculty initiative in addressing critical needs in the state of Alabama and beyond. Auburn University’s Strategic Plan priority four articulates goals and commitments the university has for increasing public engagement as a land-grant without borders. The grant program builds upon the experience of previous outreach scholarship grants, promotes the university strategic priority four objective of enhancing public engagement and promotes outreach, extension activity and engaged scholarship described in chapter three of the faculty handbook.

A Competitive Outreach Scholarship Grant is awarded to promote and establish sustainable outreach initiatives with the potential to garner extramural support for public engagement. Grants will range in value up to $20,000 for one year, with the possibility of additional funding support. Only full-time tenured, tenure-track or clinical faculty members, whose departments/units consider scholarly productivity in the conferment of promotion, are eligible to apply as the Principal Investigator, or PI. Collaboration with other faculty, community partners, staff and students is encouraged. Support for funded projects may begin as early as February 2017.

Two colloquia are being provided this fall to inform interested faculty, community partners, staff and students about the COSG program. Those interested in learning more about the application, review, award and post-award features of the program as well as requirements, can attend an information session on Thursday, Sept. 1, or Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 1-3 p.m., in 206 Samford Hall.

The COSG proposal early submission deadline for format check is Friday, Sept. 30, by 4:45 p.m. and the final submission deadline is Friday, Oct. 14, by 4:45 p.m. The grant application and budget form, as well as more information, can be found online.
