The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University, or OLLI at Auburn, is host a brown bag lunch and learn on Tuesday, July 12, at the Clarion Inn and Suites located at 1577 South College St., in Auburn. Scott Girard, former director of planning and landscape architecture for Disney, will present a talk about gardens and grounds of Disney. The title of his presentation is “Gardening with Mickey...a Peek behind the Curtain.” The program begins at 11:30 am; the public is invited. There is no charge. Bring your own lunch and drink.

A native Southern Californian and Cal Poly Pomona graduate, Scott Girard spent 34 years with the Walt Disney Company as the director of planning and landscape architecture for theme parks and resorts worldwide. He was general manager of Disney's horticulture division for the last four years of his career, where he was in charge of caring for all theme parks, resort hotels, water parks and common areas at the 28,000-acre Walt Disney World Resort complex.

Girard’s presentation will include photos of the gardens and grounds of Disney and will address many topics. He will explain how Disney theme parks and resorts are able to maintain fresh and perfect-looking landscapes. In addition, Girard will discuss the planning, design, installation and maintenance of some of the best known and best maintained landscapes in the world. Girard invites anyone who is interested in gardens, landscaping or Disney to attend the talk and enjoy “a peek behind the curtain to learn how Mickey keeps his gardens looking so good.”
