Auburn’s Common Book program is asking for donations of the 2014-2015 book, “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. A seventh- and eighth- grade English teacher at Malvern Middle School in Arkansas is working on an exhibit for the coming school year called Writers Around the World, and she selected “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” as a pivotal text to highlight diversity, perseverance and introduce multicultural studies. Anyone who would like to donate copies to her students should mail the books to Writers Around the World Exhibit, C/O C. James, P.O. Box 1234 Malvern, AR 72104. Donated books should be sent by late September. Because this is an out-of-state donation, the donated books should only be those that were purchased with personal funds. All state-funded purchases must be donated to Alabama state schools, departments and organizations. If you are interested in donating books to local communities in Alabama, contact the Common Book coordinator, Paige Busby, at aucommonbook@auburn.edu.
