Marcie Smith, vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer for Auburn University, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers, or SACUBO.

The prestigious award is given annually to recognize an individual in the SACUBO region for his or her outstanding contribution in the field of higher education business and financial management. Smith received the award and was recognized at the SACUBO annual meeting in Asheville, North Carolina this month.

Smith came to Auburn in 1985 as an internal auditor, following experience as a Certified Public Accountant in Roanoke, Virginia. She has served in various positions in central financial administration at Auburn including the director of financial reporting, controller and assistant and associate vice president for business and finance. She holds degrees from the University of Alabama, the University of North Florida and received her Master's in Accountancy from Auburn University. She has served as president of the Alabama Association of College and University Business Officers, as treasurer and board member of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers and has been active on the Research University Constituent Council and programming committees of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Her husband, Tommy Smith, is an associate professor in Human Development and Family Studies and director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program. She has two married daughters and enjoys traveling, tap dance, Zumba and having fun with friends.
