Auburn graduate student in the Department of Civil Engineering, Fatermeh Baratian-Ghorghi, recently received the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award for the Southern District Institute of Transportation Engineers. In his technical paper, titled "Red-Light Running Traffic Violations: A Novel Time-based Method for Determining a Fine Structure," Baratian-Ghorghi proposed a method to prevent potential conflicts at signalized intersections, considering the estimated economic impact of potential crashes by red light running violations and imposed delays.
