Auburn University has kicked off the 2016 RecycleMania tournament. The competition runs through April 2 and promotes waste reduction and recycling programs on college campuses nationwide.

“Auburn is taking part in this friendly competition with hundreds of other colleges, including the universities of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina,” said Joan Hicken, waste reduction and recycling department coordinator in Facilities Management.

Schools will be ranked according to who collects the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita and who has the highest recycling rate. Faculty, staff and students can help Auburn compete in the tournament.

“By focusing recycling efforts on paper, plastic bottles and aluminum cans, Auburn’s campus community can contribute to the university’s RecycleMania standings,” Hicken said.
