SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey challenged the assembled SEC librarians in a recent meeting to find a missing document. Although the SEC library is packed with archival materials and artifacts dating back to the beginning of the conference, the staff has never been able to locate a copy of a dissertation that is the only comprehensive history of the SEC.

Tommy Brown, assistant university archivist in Special Collections and Archives, located a copy of the dissertation, “A History of the Origin and Development of the Southeastern Conference” in the Auburn University Libraries. Librarians worked diligently with outside parties to make a clean copy of the rare document.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and the staff at the SEC presented Auburn University Libraries with a signature SEC reading lamp and the thanks of the organization.
