The subject of this week’s Take 5 on the university's homepage is Dale Katechis, an alumnus of the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business. Katechis combined his love of beer and the great outdoors into an empire known as Oskar Blues. It's the craft beer giant in Colorado and North Carolina and home of Dale's Pale Ale - the first craft beer in a can. Katechis's craft beer ventures began when he was a student in Auburn living in a mobile home off of Wire Road. Dale's Pale Ale was born in a bathtub, where Katechis set up his home brewing equipment. This year, Oskar Blues earned recognition on Inc. Magazine's list of the nation's 5,000 fastest-growing companies after the company generated $43.8 million in revenue in 2014. On Nov. 12, Katechis will be honored at the annual Hospitality Gala with the 2015 Horst Schulze Award for Excellence in Hospitality. [Read more]
