Professor emerita Sandra Clark-Lewis and second year doctor of audiology student Lauren Casady, both from the College of Liberal Arts, were invited to present at the "Celebrating 50 Years of Newborn Screening in Alabama" conference on Sept. 18, 2015. Presenters included Dr. Harvey Levy, professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Dr. Marci Sontag, a researcher with the Department of Public Health Laboratories at the University of Colorado. Clark-Lewis and Casady presented "Best Practices in Hearing Screening and Intervention," which included both the history of newborn hearing screening and best practices for successful newborn hearing screening programs today. The conference was sponsored by the Alabama Department of Public Health and attendees included nursery workers, hospital personnel and representatives from every birthing hospital in Alabama.
