There are an estimated 13 million refugees worldwide, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. To help provide a better understanding of this worldwide crisis, the Department of Residence Life is hosting a special lecture, “Making sense of the world’s refugee crisis,” on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Village Community Center.

The guest speaker is Douglas Casson Coutts, distinguished visiting professor, diplomat in residence and former United Nations resident coordinator with the World Food Programme. Coutts has spent more than 30 years with the United Nations, working on behalf of the world’s neediest people. His talk will examine the worldwide refugee crisis with special emphasis on its current impact in Europe.
