Author Andrea Wulf will discuss her new book, “The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World” on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m. in the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts café.The book reveals the extraordinary life of visionary German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), and how he created the way we understand nature today. Humboldt turned scientific observation into poetic narrative, inspiring naturalists and poets such as Darwin, Wordsworth and Goethe, as well as politicians such as Jefferson. Admission is free, but space is limited. Advance ticket reservation is encouraged.
