Angela Calderon, associate professor in the Department of Drug Discovery and Development in the Harrison School of Pharmacy, has been named a member of the Botanical Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicines Expert Committee of the United States Pharmacopeia, or USP, for a term from 2015-2020. The Botanical Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicines Expert Committee is responsible for the development of new and the revision of existing monographs and their associated reference materials for botanical dietary supplements and herbal medicine ingredients. The Expert Committee will address U.S. as well as global standards. USP is a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality and purity of medicines, food ingredients and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed and consumed worldwide. USP’s drug standards are enforceable in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration, and these standards are used in more than 140 countries.
