The subject of this week’s Take 5 on the Auburn University homepage is Mike Darnell, who grew up on the same small farm in Lee County, Alabama, where his father was born and raised. After graduation from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural business and economics in 1979, Darnell obtained a master's degree in agriculture at Western Kentucky University. He worked as a regional manager for the American Angus Association and CEO of the Georgia Cattlemen's Association and in 1989 he became a principal in Madison-Smith Machine in Glasgow, Kentucky. With the sale of the company to a private equity firm in 2014, Darnell is now owner of a small industrial warehousing company. His first book, "A Hero's Walk: The World War II Journey of Lt. B.B. Darnell," was recently released on Amazon.com.
