Constance Hendricks, a Charles W. Barkley Endowed Professor in Auburn’s School of Nursing, will deliver the commencement address at Concordia College Alabama’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9.

She graduated from the historically black four-year Lutheran college when it was known as Alabama Lutheran Academy. Hendricks is a native of Selma, Alabama, where Concordia is located. She currently serves as president of Concordia’s National Alumni Association.

Hendricks also earned degrees from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and Boston College, where she was the first African-American to complete its nursing doctoral program.

She plans to establish a named scholarship at UAB, where, once endowed, will be the first endowed scholarship in honor of an African-American nurse alumna.
