The Nepalese Students Association at Auburn has teamed up with the American Red Cross Club on campus to help raise money for the American Red Cross relief efforts in Nepal. Donations can be made online at this website.

On Saturday, April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck about 48 miles northwest of the capital city of Kathmandu. More than 5,000 people have died and at least 10,000 were injured as a result of the earthquake and aftershocks.

Casualty figures are expected to rise as relief efforts gain access to remote areas. The American Red Cross reports that the disaster displaced an estimated 2.8 million people, many of whom are currently staying outdoors in cold, wet conditions. Initial assessments indicate that some 600,000 homes were damaged or destroyed in the earthquake.

Members of the Nepalese Students Association collected donations on the Haley Concourse and held a candlelight vigil on the Samford Lawn last week.
