Auburn University’s 2015 Faculty Staff Campaign has raised nearly $500,000, with a 61 percent participation rate across colleges and units. Gifts were designated to more than 470 different allocations and supported more than 100 scholarships, professorships and funds for excellence.

Five departments reached 100 percent participation and eight reached 75 percent participation. Several departments significantly increased their participation with Facilities Management increasing theirs the most — by 30 percent. Facilities Management team captain Anna Ruth Gatlin attributes this increase to educating employees about how a gift — no matter the amount — matters, and also that they can allocate where their gift goes.

“Auburn is my alma mater twice over, as well as my employer, and I know for a fact that we do amazing work here — of all kinds.” Gatlin said. “I appreciate the opportunity to give back and help Auburn achieve success. Also, in my job as an interior designer, I see how vital foundation funds are to the ongoing success of our university.”

This year’s campaign also raised more than $20,000 for the university’s areas of greatest needs and more than $53,000 in for similar needs in Auburn’s colleges and schools. These funds allow the president, deans and directors to allocate support for emerging opportunities and critical needs.

Bob Boyd, a team captain for the College of Sciences and Mathematics, believes in the importance of the Auburn Family supporting each other.

“Everybody can share something,” he said. “And this is a way of supporting our students, faculty and programs.”

Melissa Voynich, who was a first-year team captain in the Harbert College of Business, believes it is important to become involved and give because faculty and staff are an integral part of Auburn’s future.

“It’s really easy for faculty and staff to get caught up in day-to-day work and not realize the bigger future that we are building. From research to technology — everything is advancing so quickly, and it means a lot to have our faculty and staff stand up and say, ‘We believe in this, and we are going to support this, too,’” she said.

Auburn University has held a Faculty Staff Campaign annually since 2006 and holds one of the highest participation rates among universities in the Southeastern Conference. According to Will Holley, Auburn Fund manager, the high participation rate sends a positive message to Auburn’s alumni and encourages the university’s development officers in their work with donors.

“Faculty and staff participation shows the Auburn Family, and the world, that we believe in Auburn,” he said.
