The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University, or OLLI at Auburn, will host a Brown Bag Lunch and Learn Wednesday, April 15, at noon in Ballroom CD of the Clarion Inn located at 1577 S. College St., Auburn. The public is invited to this free event.

Sonny Dawsey will give a lecture about “The Confederados” who were southerners emigrating to other countries following the Civil War. One of the established colonies was located in southeast Brazil not far from the farm of William H. Norris, former Alabama senator from Dallas County.

Dawsey is a professor emeritus of geography at Auburn University. He has also served as the chair of the Department of Geography and director of the Institute for Latin American Studies. Since retiring from Auburn University, Dawsey has been an active OLLI at Auburn member. He is an OLLI Board Member and OLLI Faculty Member.

Attendees at the Brown Bag Lunch may bring a lunch and drink to enjoy during Dawsey’s presentation.
